LONG TERM CARE
What is Long Term Care?
Long term care provides several necessary services for those with a prolonged illness, disability or cognitive disorder such as Alzheimer's. Long term care differs from traditional medical care; it is designed to assist a person to maintain his or her level of functioning rather than to rehabilitate or correct certain medical problems. For instance, services may include help with bathing and dressing, respite care, home health care, assisted living and nursing home care. You and your agent at Dixie Insurance Services will design a plan that most fits your needs and your budget.
Won't Medicare pay for these services?
NO! This is a common misconception. Medicare will pay for skilled nursing care on a limited basis only. The Senate Committee on Aging has found that the primary cause of poverty for the elderly is a lack of planning for Long Term Care.
Can't My Spouse Take Care of ME??
Your spouse may WANT to care for you, but so often is physically unable to provide necessary care, such as lifting into a wheel chair or into the tub.

So you think you are too young to buy a Long Term Care plan?
Allow me to tell you about an appointment I had with a beautiful young woman, maybe about 52. She and her family had health insurance with one of the major health carriers. That November day when I visited her exquisitely decorated home, it brimmed of Christmas smells and decor. Because her husband had hints of health problems, she had agreed to purchase a Long Term Care policy if he would increase his life insurance benefits. It seemed the perfect arrangement for them. So we completed the paperwork that afternoon.
How shocked I was to receive a phone call from Ed, her husband, maybe a year later. He asked if I could help him coordinate the hospice benefits from his medical policy with those the Long Term care plan offered. His beautiful wife had rapidly declining cancer and they needed to take advantage of the nursing home benefits and shortly, the hospice benefits that her Long Term Care Policy offered. It seemed only a few months later when the life insurance proceeds went out to her husband.
She was not too young to need her Long Term Care planning or the substantial Life Insurance benefits.
David and Jill were a conscientious couple in their late Forties when I met them. To them, it did not seem that long ago when they had purchased enough life insurance, - fifteen years ago - for their growing family. Yet, when I met with them, they were shocked to realize that their insurance proceeds would never cover the inevitable. What if David, a company superintendent, would die prematurely? How pleased and surprised they were to learn that the cost of term insurance had dropped so much that they could purchase a much larger policy for almost the same amount of insurance they were purchasing so many years ago.
Dixie Insurance will offer only policies from those insurance companies with a proven track record - those which you can count on to be around when it is time for you to file a claim , those companies who rates are fair, and those companies whom you can TRUST!

What happens if you OUTLIVE your Money?
I'd like to tell you a TRUE story happening to clients of mine. Both of them, the husband and the wife, are suffering from debilitating illnesses demanding that they receive constant, round the clock, custodial care.
Fortunately, they purchased LONG TERM CARE policies several years ago which included home health care benefits. They do NOT want to go into a nursing home! Understandably, they want to stay in their own surroundings.
Presently, the cost of having a caretaker is $15 an hour or
$360 a day or
$2520 a week or
$131,040.00 a year.
Are you thinking that you will only need a caretaker during your waking hours? Then, recalculate the number in half. And, this hourly rate will increase each year with inflation.
Now, back to my friends . . . BOTH of them took out policies some years ago, and insurance is paying approximately one half of these costs. They must pay the balance from their savings. However, when they purchased these plans, they selected a four year benefit period for home health care benefits. Soon they will run out of their benefits!!
What happens, then, when people outlive their money?
Generally, most people have only one option available to them. They MUST go into a Nursing Home provided by Medicaid. Rarely is there another choice.
At the rate of $131,000 a year, how long will YOUR money will last?
Isn't this the time for us to be talking about a Long Term Care plan with sufficient HOME HEALTH CARE Benefits??
